Mother and Child: Eric Gill.

Watched video about called The Art of Eric Gill. The video used extracts from essays and articles written by Gill as the voice over. Was a fascinating video. As I myself have been increasingly interested in the ‘Mother and Child’ type of imagery (see breastfeeding sketch), his work was interesting in many ways. He highlighted that his artwork brought together the ‘spiritual’ and ‘physical’, much in the same way I believe my own work does. Gill mentions how the forms shaped in the stone were exaggerated and were stoney as the material was. His mother and child works reflected my own desire to depict this intimate bond that happens around breastfeeding. I had been considering to make work on very similar lines.
